HOW TO

1. CHANGE A LAMP IN THE READING LIGHTS

Lamp changing is not a complicated job to do, and certainly not one for the boatyard. The usual cost is about £25 for them to replace just one lamp!!!

The thing to remember with these lighting fittings is that the more they are rotated and swung in and out it shortens the life of the cable inside the fitting.

1. Get the short crosshead screw driver out of the tool box and a MR11 replacement lamp, both of which should be in there. Ensure the light fitting is turned off. If you are unsure, turn off the appropriate lighting breaker.

2.  Fold the light fitting down with the lamp facing the floor. You will see two small cross head screws in the back of the light fitting. Undo these and put somewhere safe!

3. Then carefully slide the outer tube part downwards until the two lugs  on the lamp body prevent it going any further. Angle the lamp body at 450 to the fitting and then slide  off as shown in the picture.

4. You should now have removed the lamp body  and the old lamp will be exposed.

5. Remove the old lamp by pulling downwards. Fit the replacement carefully making sure the pins of the lamp are not bent or distorted.

6. Once you have replaced the lamp, just flick the switch on and off to ensure the lamp works. Then reassemble the light fitting using the reverse process described above
